Certs for Troops

News Comments Off

Soldiers’ Angels is proud to team up with wounded veteran Matt Bernard to assist fellow veterans employed by his new company, Brinestone, LLC. Brinestone is a full IT service provider for small and mid-size businesses in Milford, New Hampshire. With two employees so far, Matt is looking to expand, even in challenging economic times such as this.

And Soldiers’ Angels is standing by to help veterans when he does!

Exceptional, newly-transitioning veteran employees of Brinestone who demonstrate career potential and interest will be eligible to receive support from Soldiers’ Angels for their training and testing costs to earn CompTIA Network+ 2007 and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification. The CompTIA certification is an international industry credential that validates the knowledge of professionals in network support or administration. The MCSA credential validates knowledge in system administration of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Both of these skills sets are and will continue to be in high demand in the Information Technology (IT) field and can be a great boost to someone beginning work in an IT career.

The certification process includes several months of online coursework and a certification test taken locally. The CompTIA and MCSA certifications are particularly valuable in the IT industry because they show very specific hands-on knowledge/skill that goes beyond what is learned in a college degree program, preparing the certificate holder for a variety of IT-related jobs in network technology and Microsoft-certified systems administration.

The plan is to have up to six or eight employees participating in the program in the course of this year. Matt has dubbed it “Certs for Troops,” and hopes that perhaps someday it can be expanded into an independent nonprofit project that reaches veterans beyond this year.

Soldiers’ Angels salutes Matthew Bernard for his courage, his support for his fellow veterans, and his determination to build a new company during these challenging times, and is proud to stand with him in support of those who have sacrificed for us.

Though an explosion in Iraq cut the career of Army Infantryman Matthew Bernard short, he hasn’t forgotten his fellow veterans as he has gone on to his new career.

In December 2008, Bernard founded Brinestone, a full IT service provider for small and mid-size businesses in Milford, New Hampshire. With two employees so far, he plans to keep his eye out for veterans to hire as the company expands. He hopes to offer paid training and certification for top-notch employees joining Brinestone after leaving military service.

Looking after others is natural for Bernard, even as he has made his own recovery. When he was wounded, Soldiers’ Angels was there to help, and he soon became a liaison between Soldiers’ Angels and other wounded warriors in need of support or assistance. Supporting his fellow veterans by giving them the opportunity to build their careers in the IT field is just a continuation of the care he gave his brothers when he was an Infantryman.

Bernard has always been proactive–when he ran into problems during his recovery, he created a documentary detailing the challenges veterans sometimes face when trying to get healthcare and rehab support. When he decided he wanted to be “his own man,” he bravely stepped out to build a new company.

Soldiers’ Angels salutes Matthew Bernard for his courage, his service, his perseverance during recovery, and his determination to build a new company during these challenging times. So if you live and work in the Northeast and need full-service IT help, check out Brinestone!
